Always nice to be featured on TechCrunch ... no doubt about it!

News from the deck

New means, new partners & new features - What a fantastic spring !

New investment & partners: We are pleased to announce the closing of a new round of financing. This roundtable pertinently completes our group of partners and provides us with new and exiting potential collaborations with well-established media businesses. All we need to accelerate our expansion! New investors include: reputed Web 2.0 business angels - Econa, a German group of internet companies - Kima Ventures, a private equity fund founded by Xavier Niel (Iliad/Free Founder and soon co-owner of 'Le Monde') and Jeremie Berrebi (Net2one, Zlio and business angel ...). Along with Venture Incubator AG they represent a combined leverage a young venture can clearly benefit from. Welcome!

Ready for growth
: The uptake of paper.li was so immediate and sudden that it caught us by surprise. In the past weeks, a large effort was therefore put behind the development of a robust backend to accommodate the massive influx of new users. This has now been completed. We are currently working on providing generic new functionalities to the service, along with support for further languages. That should enable us to release a beta version in the coming weeks.

New features & refreshed design: Paper.li being fundamentally about socially powered news, we have been approached by several "traditional" media companies that want to integrate the paper.li experience into their own news sites. We thus expect these collaborations to lead to further interesting service enhancements. For now, based on popular demand, we have just launched the possibility to create newspapers based on Twitter lists along with a refreshed look & feel.

Good reading on paper.li!

SmallRivers is nominated as a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer Candidate

This we have to share with you... We just learned that SmallRivers has been nominated as a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer Candidate for the class of 2011! While still only a « candidate », this is nice news all the same. And maybe even to be a little proud about?

A small reminder if needed: the World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas. (www.weforum.org).

Its Technology Pioneers Community is one of the most widely recognized initiatives of the World Economic Forum. To be selected as a Technology Pioneer, a company must be involved in the development of technology innovation and have the potential for long-term impact on business and society. In addition, it must demonstrate visionary leadership, show the signs of being a long-standing market leader, and its technology must be proven.

You can find out more information about the Programme, the recognition and past recipients of the award by visiting the WEF site : www.weforum.org/techpioneers.

Yes, we do feel a touch of pride... ;-)
